Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a Financial Plan?

A financial plan is a guide to making future decisions. We’ll enter all of your information into an advanced software to project what your future might look like so we can make informed decisions. Like your life, it will change over time, but it will give us the ability to create a custom roadmap to work towards your goals.

How Can a Financial Planner Help Me?

A financial advisor’s job is to help you achieve your goals in the most efficient way possible. Many dreams and goals revolve around money. We help our clients create plans to have their resources work for them now so their goals are achievable in the future. We also strive to share our knowledge with clients to alleviate stress and give them the confidence and peace of mind they deserve with their financial decisions.

What Is Ethical Investing?

Ethical Investing is aligning your money to your values. It’s a sliding scale—on one side you have ESG (environmental, social, governance) integration, which is the integration of ESG factors into the individual security selection. On the other side, you have impact investing, which is investing to make a measurable difference. For example, reducing carbon emissions, or increasing female representation on fortune 500 boards.

Why Did You Choose to Work With Educators?

Academics, teachers, and professors spend most of their time helping to shape future generations through education. I have a passion for both learning and teaching. Becoming a financial advisor lets me combine both of those passions. Financial education has allowed me to build a life that I’m proud of despite the odds being stacked against me. Education truly changes lives, and I want to support that.

How Do I Know if My Current Financial Advisor Relationship Is Working for Me?

First and foremost, you should feel comfortable with your finances. If you’re not satisfied with the performance of your portfolio, this is a red flag for one of two reasons: either your portfolio is underperforming, or your advisor has failed to set proper expectations. Basically, if you don’t feel comfortable in a working relationship with your planner, it’s time to look for someone else.

What's the Difference Between You and an Advisor at a Bank?

Working with an advisor is a personal experience. Remember, you’re in control of who you hire as your financial planner and don’t have to be tied to your financial institution just because you do your day-to-day banking there. Blindly trusting that your bank always has your best interests at heart can cause unsatisfactory results that you may not be able to correct if you catch them too late.

What Do CFP and CIM Stand For?

CFP stands for Certified Financial Planner, and CIM stands for Chartered Investment Manager. The CFP designation is what you need to look for when selecting a financial planner because it proves competency, but most importantly, the advisor must subscribe to a code of ethics that an advisor always put the interest of their clients first. This code of ethics is a higher standard than what is required in the financial industry.

Do You Integrate Ethical Investing Into All of Your Investment Recommendations?

No—but I prefer investing in forward-thinking companies that address environmental, social, and governance issues within their companies. I believe this leads to a more sustainable business.
